Poker Stars Review
I have heard a few people mention Pokerstars before,
but never thought it was such a big site. I was very
wrong indeed. Pokerstars is up there with household
names like 888.com and partypoker. With game play
for anyone who enjoys a good old game of poker.
The download
The web site was very good, offering advice and help
on anyone starting out in the world of poker and also
some advice on how to play the huge number of games
offered by pokerstars. Also help on how to play the
‘play money’ tables and practice your
strategies.
The download was very easy to find from the main site.
The download was quick and easy and within moments
I was up and running with an account that allowed
me to go on the play money tables. I wasn’t
asked for any real money or account details in order
get going. This allows just about anyone to be able
to get on here and play for ‘play money’.
The tables
As you would expect from such a big name, the number
of tables on offer is huge. They offer all the real
money tables you would expect from a big player in
poker and also plenty of ‘play money’
tables, which allow you to practice. Unlike many other
‘play money’ tables out there, the ones
on poker stars are very competitive and are almost
like people are playing for real money. Up until recently
the best play money site I had found was that of pkr
poker room, but now there is a new challenge. Pokerstars
offer Multi Table Tournaments for ‘play money’
tables; which are not easy to win on and have helped
me practice playing in real tournaments. One thing
I will say about the play money tables though is,
it is very hard to find your way round in order to
top up that play money balance when all is lost (trust
me you will need to), but after a bit of wandering
round the site I found all the help I needed. I was
on midweek and late at night and there were nearly
80,000 players online, so there is no shortage of
people to play against. Once you have your skills
up to scratch on the practice tables, I am sure you
will want to head on over to the real money tables.
The real money tables are just the same kind of game
play and offer you all the normal tournaments you
will ever need. The type of game on offer includes
satalite games, MTT’s, cash tables and Sit &
Go tables. So what ever your after then you will find
it on Pokerstars.com.
Bonus Amounts
I was very disappointed when it came to looking up
what bonus amounts were on offer. $50 first time deposit
bonus; I thought I must have read it in error at first,
but no it is a measly $50; which is one of the lowest
bonus amounts I have ever seen on a poker site. I
would have expected a much higher amount. You also
have to play in a number of real games and earn points
in order to qualify for the $50 bonus amount. They
do also offer reload bonus amounts, but at the present
time there were non on offer.
The only good thing is that you can build up points
each time you play in a real game, which will later
allow you to take part in freeroll games. I think
this only partly makes up for the small first time
deposit bonus on offer.
My thoughts
My first impressions on the site were not overwhelming
with eagerness to sign up. The site does offer plenty
of help to both experienced and new poker players,
which is about the only positive I found on the site.
When playing the ‘play money’ tables though,
I found that most people were from America and are
not allowed to play online for real money. This had
an upside though; most of them are not easy to beat,
as they play as if it is real money. This will help
you better your game, without having to lose lots
of money in the process.
The look and feel of the tables can also be changed
and looking at the default layout I think this will
be something you will want to do before starting to
play.
A word of warning though, the ‘play money’
tables can fill up very quick, so you will have to
be quick.
